First off
I'd like to say ty to neverbeg/ptp for giving me the oppurtunity to build a roll without any $ in my account without this site that prolly wouldn't have happened for awhile.
Secondly my roll was at about 35$ yesterday and through the 5.50 18 mans been able to build it up to 77$ so far. Would like to know when would be a good time to move up to the 11$ 18 mans ( I like the structure of the tournaments and at 5.50 some pretty easy money so far from what I've seen) and if the 11$ are any harder to beat than the 5.50's. My main problem has always been br management and would like to try not to go broke again. Any help or advice appreciated ty and have a nice day, Bman83.

Same here...if your trying to build a bankroll don't use more then 5% of it on a sng. I have crushed the 5.50 9 mans in the past then all of a sudden hit bad beats like no other! And trust me it can hurt your bankroll, but if you stand by the 5% rule then you should be able to handle the losing streaks Goodluck

With your BR at $77, I have to agree with everyone else. Never use more than 5% of you BR for any given SnG. With this being said you might want to drop down to the lower levels and build it up from there. It will be slow going but a lot safer for your BR. And if your BR drops 20% from the start, drop down a level again. Once you have effectively doubled your BR and the next level is at or less than 5% of your BR, then move up and see how the play is. If you find it harder to beat the next level drop back down and double up your BR once again before moving up again. Me personally I would wait till my BR has reach $220 before moving up to the $11 level. I suggest dropping down to a lower level until your BR reaches $110 and then move back to the $5.50 level and build that up to no less than $220 before moving up. What you need to remember is that as you climb in buy-ins, your BR needs to be all that much stronger to with stand a few hits. Again I like to use the 20% rule to drop back, if you have $220 and you're playing $11 buy-ins and drop to around $175 then drop back and rebuild. But if I have to drop back because my BR to a hit of 20% then I rebuild back to starting BR for the level I want to move back up to plus 20% to give me more time at that level.

5% buy-in for a sng is ok only if you plan to move down when needed.
For higher levels, pro players talk about AT LEAST 100 buy-ins, because the idea is playing a lot of volume at the same level without moving down. So, 150-200 BI is good if you are playing a game you can beat. In fact is more about ROI than your stakes. If you can beat small games easily, you're going to have a lot of variance also. Since you need far more than 500 games to know your real ROI, you better be conservative.
Having a very small BR, playing with a 5% rule is not good imo, since there's little room to move down after that. With $80 or less there's no way of you playing games bigger than $2.25s.
Just to put an example, Spacegravy made 25K in one month playing $60 sngs. He had about 10% roi and a downswing of about 50 buy-ins in the middle of that.
