What a great idea. I wish I could donate blood, but I am on medication that precludes me from doing so.

I approve of this thread.
Not only is donating a great thing to do but this also reminds me to arrange an appointment to donate platelets before Christmas.

Seriously an awesome and honorable thing you are doing here, Talking Poker.
Unfortunately I am not eligible to donate due to medical reasons. That is something that has always bothered me. I truly respect you and everyone else who donates though.

Before I opt to participate I insist on knowing what you plan to do with all that blood...

Does anyone know if you can donate blood after receiving transfusions? I can't find anything online.

Depends what kind of drugs, and mostly if you used needles, I believe. It can't hurt to go in... just answer the questions honestly, and they will defer you if you are ineligible. No biggie.

Eligibility requirements (per Red Cross, but pretty standard):
http://www.redcrossblood.org/donatin...y-requirements
Specifically, I see this:
Quote:
Wait for 12 months after receiving a blood transfusion from another person in the United States.
You may not donate if you received a blood transfusion since 1980 in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Gibraltar or Falkland Islands). This requirement is related to concerns about variant CJD, or 'mad cow' disease. Learn more about variant CJD and blood donation.
You may not donate if you received a blood transfusion in certain countries in Africa since 1977. This requirement is related to concerns about rare strains of HIV that are not consistently detected by all current test methods. Learn more about HIV Group O, and the specific African countries where it is found.

Looking at the link above, I see no mention of drugs, other than intravenous drugs, which is a permanent deferral if they were not prescribed by a physician.

great thread is great..
i would do it, if i wasn't afraid of needles.
though, seriously, just b/c of this karma thing. and, if not enough people replace your blood. I will still go and donate, if you feel like enough haven't replaced ur blood.. w/o a stake too. just because, and just pm me.
im serious. karma is soo powerful.
