Beginners guide to HU play
First off i would like to say that most of your actions are going to be player dependent. This is just a basic strategy guide that i put together for the person who is looking to start playing the wonderful game of HU Texas Holdem. Enjoy
A good player will break even on the BB and make alot
of money on the button
You will be raising 60-80% of your hands from the button
Raise or fold, DONT LIMP
3X bb or fold
Preflop Button Play
Hands to raise
- Any pair
- Any suited Ace
- A7 to AK offsuit
- K/10-KQ suited or not
- Any suited non gapper 3/4 or higher
- Any offsuit non gapper 5/6 or higher
- Suited 1 gappers 4/6 or higher
- Unsuited 1 gappers 7/9 or higher
- Suited 2 gappers 6/9 or higher
If your opponent reraises you small:
Small reraise, never fold
Hands to reraise:
- Pocket Jacks or higher
- AK and sometimes AQ suited (player dependent)
If your opponent makes a normal reraise:
- Call with 2/2-10/10
- Reraise JJ-AA
- Call AK AQ AJ suited and 10/j - KQ suited
If you opponent makes a giant reraise:
Can't call with any of your hands, raise all in or fold
JJ-AA and AK suited or not
(Based on 100bbs)
Preflop play OOP
If your opponent limps and you decide to raise make it 4x
Hands to raise a limp with:
- A-10 Suited or not
- 88 or better
- KJ-KQ
If your opponent makes a min raise or 3x raise
- Call with 22-10/10
- reraise with JJ or better
- Call any broadway cards
- Call any suited non gappers 4/5 or higher
- Call unsuited non gappers 6/7 or higher
- Call suited 1 gappers 4-6 or higher
If your oppononet raises like an idiot to 6x or higher
reraise or fold strategy
- If he does it alot reraise with 99 or higher or A/10+
Post flop play on the button
If you raised and got reraised continue with the hand if:
- You flop a set
- Good top pair, top kicker or close
- a good draw, pair and gut shot or better, flush draw
- 2 pair
- If he checks any of the above to you bet!
Post flop play OOP Normal raised pots
Continue with:
- Top pair good kicker
- Any good draw, straight draw or flush draw
- Raise with overpairs
- Two pair
- Check raise with set or two pair
Bluff roughly (25%) if he checks flop:
- 3/4 to Full pot
- Semi bluff with gutshots, middle pair
- Sometimes two over cards depending on texture
of the board
- Keep all your bets the same, bluffing or not

Very true this is a little bit on the TAG side. This is only a guide for people to use while trying to get a feel for the game. Then once they get good enough to add marginal raising hands into their range they will be able to do so profitably

nice start, i'd like to see it expanded with a few examples - i think it could be built into a really useful beginner's guide.
