eh, interesting hand.

you have to approach this hand as if the river 3 didn't help him. I figure him for an overpair or just big cards here.

check/raising can be argued, but with bets on flop and turn, i probably check river too.

you checked the whole way and all of a sudden you jump out like the 3 on the river helped you...
imo
i check there as well...either he checks and sees your winning hand for free, or he bets and you can re-pop him.

either way...he folded to your bet so betting out right there was the wrong play imo

One alternate line you might think about using is making a small lead bet on the turn here. Most of the time when someone check/calls the flop and then leads small on thet turn they are trying to get a cheap card, typically with a draw or a very marginal hand, like 87 or something. An aggressive player will often raise this turn bet regardless of their hand. In this spot he either has an overpair or unpaired high cards. If he has an overpair you're probably getting his money regardless, whereas you have to be tricky to really get paid when he has air. If you lead small on the turn and he raises, I would smooth call and then lead small again on the river if a low card comes or checkraise if an A K or Q drops. I think that's the best way to maximize value from both his overpairs and unpaired high cards.

I love this idea but it's a $3 tournament and in that regard I think this guy would have folded to any bet on the turn in my opinion. He played it well all the way through. The bet amount might have been to high though, I would have done a smaller bet like 1000 to entice him and make him think you were making a move. all in all, you got a decent amount and probably would have only gotten a few hundred more. I personally don't like checking the river cause if he shuts down, you would have never known what you could have gotten
