final table of a 45 man, flopped top pair
Payouts for ref: 6th 155 5th 186 / 310 / 496/ 776/ 1197
the SB had been a little goofy but i didn't have a particular read on him for this bet... really unsure due to presence of all in player, since it seems like if i lose to the SB, UTG probably will as well.
at the time it felt like he was on some kind of draw, and getting 2-1 it felt hard to pass up, but now it seems kinda marginal. thoughts?
Full Tilt Poker

Pretty tough to fold there considering he could be shoving almost anything because of the allin player.

i'm curious about the hand. thinking SB has you either outkicked or has a big draw. flush draw?
If it's me I lay it down, might be a little tight but don't think the reward is worth the risk on this hand.

eesh, that feels tough to me, i think i would have huge alarm bells -- his pre-flop call may be to sucker you in; what is he shoving here that u beat? AK/AQ and a diamond draw imo; i think its a fold, as nitty as that sounds, u still will have 9xBB to start shoving with

i'd fold. I think he flat called (thinking u were gonna fold) so then proly he has 2 over cards, or hit the flop and has u outkicked, or even a 1010. If u fold and u had him, well at least u got a read and from him and us still got chips to play aganist him and u have position on him.
tricky, but fold...

if you say fold, what odds would you need to be getting to push it to a call?

You're ahead more than half the time in this spot so folding is ridiculous imo. When someone has you beat there, a good portion of the time they are likely to either make a bet they think you could call or check and hope for you to bet. People shove ridiculous holdings when there is a short stack allin. I actually shove or bet a huge range here if I am in his shoes because most people think you should fold there without a very big hand. Good fold equity + overs = shove

I think call fold or shove pre are all viable options.

I dont play at that stake level but I would have folded preflop for a couple reasons. 1st is that you are likely going to be put in a difficult position after the flop if the guy bets. 2nd is that if you blank then you are potentially giving the short stack a couple more thousand chips, which to me at that level blinds is pretty crucial for u to have an extra 2000 than the short stack.
That being said, we saw the flop and the guy put you all in. Your read was the guy was on some kind of draw, in which case i would definately call. If the guy hits his draw, then he probably beats the short stack too and at least you would slide into 5th money spot. If your hand is good and holds, you should have no trouble running the table 5 handed with a short stack for the win. As herschel said, I can see this guy betting with a very wide range here to try and make you fold for great odds. As an aside, with whatever holding he has here, I really dont like a flat call preflop in his position. Unless maybe he has AA and is trying to get you to squeeze with great odds. Which is about all that i am worried he is holding here. AA or KK or maybe A9 and the rest of the time you are ahead imo, because if he had any other PP or hand that fairs well against the short stacks range he surely should have isolated preflop. Ok im done ranting, hopefully you were right and won! GL GL
